Spring break wasn’t stress-free for all

The second week of the fourth quarter began this week.

Spring break is a week off from school, to have fun and not stress about school, but 60 percent of Derby High School students had homework to do. Not every teacher assigned homework, but many did – especially in higher level classes.

“I did not need to assign homework for spring break. My classes finished their unit just as break started,” chemistry teacher Richard Holland said. “If I did assign homework, it would have been a quick review… a refresher.”

Many teachers, like Holland, understand the stress and the workload of school. They try to alleviate some of that with an actual break — from them, their homework, and their rules.

“Students are stressed all year so spring break is the only time they really get off to sleep,” sophomore Amanda Drouhard said. “Teachers expect two hours of homework per night and we need the breaks to balance the scale.”
